Wednesday 15 - Going west

Picked up a Small car in Dublin. Traveling west to Westport. It should take about 3 hrs. Along the way, cows and sheep graze in the fields. We are traveling past old churches, farms and homes. Much of the countryside looks like Michigan. Mike is driving first and doing a really good job. Steering wheel is on the right and the shift is on the left. Thank god for GPS. Here we are at Cozy Joe's in Westport. Currently eating lunch. Hello, Carol Spry. Next we'll go to Matt Malloy's, Curry's Tea Shop, and Peter Kelly and Son's, Carol's family. Sunny, currently 2:30pm, your time 9:30am. Well, hello Peter Kelley and son. Susan, the shop owner was wonderful. Sandy and I bought Aran Island sweaters and jewelry. Then we left for Galway, then Doolin where our hotel is. We drove along the Cliffs of Mohre. The roads are really narrow. As Mike drives, the side of the car brushes against the vegetation at the side of the road. Pretty harrowing at times. Finally got to our hotel, Ballinalochen Hotel. A castle from the 1300's is at the back of the bed and breakfast. We will go on a tour in the morning. It is currently 1040 pm and in a pub at the hotel with Irish music. I think it possibly could not get any better than this.

Matt Malloy's Pub. One of the Chieftain's, a group from the 70's group, here with one of his Grammy's that was won. The Grammy was very heavy

All throughout Ireland there were rock fences everywhere

  1. Lovely posts and pictures! I know it's too late to ask, but when you dropped Solomon off on Monday, did you grab my camera to take with you? I'm REALLY sorry if you never got it...
